Thanks to our generous donors, Blue Grass Community Foundation is pleased to offer a variety of scholarships to area students seeking educational opportunities beyond high school.

Applicants are encouraged to read the eligibility requirements for each scholarship and apply to those that match their educational plans. Each scholarship has its own deadline and set of application materials.


Jane Allen Newman Scholarship

The Jane Allen Newman Scholarship Fund awards 3 scholarships of $2,000 each to high school seniors in Kentucky with financial need who wish to further pursue their education by attending college. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study, provided that the student maintains a 2.0 cumulative GPA, maintains full-time status, and is in good academic standing. Application

Emma E. Buckley Scholarship

This scholarship was established in honor of Emma E. Buckley, a long-time philanthropist in Kentucky. This scholarship is awarded to high school seniors attending Woodford County High School or Fayette County Public Schools who demonstrate financial need. The scholarship amount varies each year. Application

MacLellan Education Scholarship

The MacLellan Education Scholarship was established to benefit children and stepchildren of MacLellan Services Inc. employees. MacLellan Services, Inc., seeks to recognize and honor academic excellence by providing scholarships to students who have financial need and who plan to major in any of the specified fields of study as listed under the eligibility requirements. Guidelines   Application

Thomas B. Bright, Jr., Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas B. Bright, Jr., Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Thomas B. Bright Jr., former president of Kentucky Propane Gas Association. The scholarship provides a one-time award of $500 to $1,000 to students who are employees or relatives of employees of companies belonging to the Kentucky Propane Gas Association.  Application

Kitchen-Challis Scholarship

The Lillian Kitchen and Zella Kitchen Challis Scholarship was established by Linda and Jack Gill, to honor Linda Gill’s mother and grandmother. This scholarship provides one annual award of $2,000 to a graduating senior from Harrison County High School in Cynthiana, Kentucky. The recipient must plan to major in science, math, engineering, pre-medicine, business, or education in college. Application

Gill-Elliott Scholarship

The Gill-Elliott Scholarship was established to honor William J. Elliott, a chemistry and physics teacher at Highlands High School for 32 years. This scholarship provides an annual award of $2,000 to a graduating senior from Highlands High School. The recipient must plan to major in the physical or biological sciences, math, engineering, pre-medicine, business, or education in college. Application

Jennifer Leigh Soper Scholarship

The Jennifer Leigh Soper Scholarship was established by Lee Soper, in memory of his daughter. The scholarship will award at least $500 to a college-bound student with cystic fibrosis. Application

Margaret Hall Alumnae Scholarship

The Margaret Hall Alumnae Scholarship Fund was established for students who are relatives of Margaret Hall School Alumnae in Versailles, Kentucky. Scholarship amount varies between $500 and $1,000. Application

16th District PTA Scholarship

The objective of the 16th District PTA Scholarship is to give deserving young people the financial means to continue their education. The scholarship is awarded to high school seniors attending Fayette County Public Schools based on financial need, academic achievement and contribution to the community. The minimum amount awarded, per 16th District PTA standing rules, is $500 per scholarship. Recent awards have been for $1000. Application or Application (Special Needs)

Alliance Coal Scholarship

The Alliance Coal Scholarship was established to provide a scholarship to students who plan to be enrolled full-time at Washington University in St. Louis, MO who were high school graduates of Gallatin or White County, Illinois and who have lost a parent due to an accident or an illness. Students must have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and must be involved in sports, extracurricular school activities, and/or employed. Application


Stephen L. Keller Scholarship

The Stephen L. Keller Scholarship was established to annually provide three non-renewable scholarships of $2,000 to outstanding undergraduate students from Eastern Kentucky majoring in a business-related field. The student must be attending an accredited four-year educational institution in Kentucky. Application

Loren Richards Elder Care Scholarship

The Loren Richards Elder Care Scholarship was established to provide an annual $2,000 scholarship for an upcoming third year undergraduate student pursuing a degree in a field of study that will prepare them for a career that will have direct impact on the elderly population. Scholarship unavailable for the 2013-2014 Academic Year.

Carole P. Bizzack Memorial Scholarship

The Carole P. Bizzack Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Carole P. Bizzack, who had great compassion for animals in need. This scholarship fund will award annual scholarships to third and fourth year university students enrolled in the field of animal science and veterinary medicine at an accredited university. Application


Edith Schwab Memorial Scholarship

The Edith Schwab Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Edith Schwab, Deputy Director of the Legislative Research Commission. This scholarship provides a non-renewable award of at least $1,000 to a graduate student pursuing a degree and career in government service (i.e. public service). This includes, but is not limited to fields of study such as public administration, teaching, public health, or social work. Application
