What is A
Community Fund?

The Community Fund is a permanent charitable resource designed to support local causes and organizations. Through individual donations – large and small – a local advisory board is able to make grants to meet the needs and vision of the community. We partner with individuals, businesses and nonprofits to make Boyle County a better place to live, learn, work and play.

Spotlight: Doing Good
In Madison County

PASSION FOR LOCAL PHILANTHROPY:
DOUG AND NANCY STEWART HINDMAN
Doug and Nancy Stewart Hindman, self-described travel junkies, have visited every continent, but they have a special love for their adopted state of Kentucky. Both Doug and Nancy joined the faculty of Eastern Kentucky University in 1968 and have lived in Madison County ever since. Doug is a retired psychology professor who still maintains a private practice, and Nancy developed and directed a program for low-income, first-generation college students. Both remain active volunteers in their community, supporting social causes and serving on several nonprofit boards.

After the Hindmans learned about Blue Grass Community Foundation and its affiliate, the Madison County Community Foundation, they established the Stewart-Hindman Donor Advised Fund. “We like the flexibility of a donor advised fund,” said Doug. “It allows us to recommend grants to a variety of local community groups. And the Foundation reduces the hassle factor tremendously. Now we’re able to concentrate on giving without worrying about the administrative details.”

Doug and Nancy also established a scholarship fund to provide awards to graduating seniors of Salem Community High School in Salem, Illinois. The Robert Marion and Ethel Keolker Stewart Scholarship Fund memorializes Nancy’s parents, both of whom graduated from Salem High School in 1935.

The Community Foundation has made it possible for us to support the many charities and causes we care about. It’s been the perfect choice for us.
